Sci Fi releases first details of stand-alone two-hour movie that will be premiere after the series concludes.
While all Battlestar Galactica fans knew another stand-alone movie was coming down the pipeline, nothing was ever made official. Well, now it is.
Sci Fi Channel today announced "an all-new Battlestar Galactica special event" (fancy talk for telemovie) that's set to air in 2009 after the fourth and final season of BSG concludes. Like Razor, a previous Battlestar movie, it will be released on DVD shortly after it airs.
The two-hour flick will be written by Jane Espenson and directed by actor Edward James Olmos, who plays Bill Adama. However, Olmos may only be behind the camera; currently the only cast members announced for the film are Michael Trucco (Sam Anders), Aaron Douglas (Chief Galen Tyrol), and Dean Stockwell (Brother Cavil).
The "event" will take place just before the events of the miniseries that started everything off. According to Sci-Fi, the unnamed movie will show the aftermath of the destruction of Caprica and concentrate on two Cylon agents trying to clean up the mess after human spaceships manage to escape.
The Chicago Tribune asked Sci Fi head of original programming Mark Stern about the possibilities of more cast members joining the project, and naturally, it all comes down to money.
"The cast are lovely," Stern told the paper. "That's not to say we're not getting phone calls from their agents saying, 'They're huge now.' And we're respectful of that. We're not expecting anyone to do it because they owe us. There are actors that have come to some prominence; they're helping us out because they want to do it."
No Six? No Starbuck? No Sharon? No Adama? No worries--it's Battlestar...it will still be brilliant. Agree? |

| Yéni, voici les grandes lignes :
Le film sortira juste après la fin de la série (vers Mars 2009, donc), et peu après en DVD.
Il sera écrit par Jane Espenson (Buffy, Angel, BSG), et réalisé par James Olmos (Adama dans BSG, qui a déjà réalisé l'épisode 109). Il racontera les événements sur Caprica peu après sa destruction dans le Pilot, après la fuite des quelques survivants. Le point du vue sera celui des Cylons.
Les agendas des acteurs sont chargés alors pour l'instant les seuls personnages qui seront pour sûr dans le téléfilm sont Michael Trucco (Anders), Aaron Douglas (Tyrol) et Dean Stockwell (Cavil).

When the Sci Fi Channel announced that Battlestar Galactica would conclude its series run after 10 more episodes, fans of the series wept like little babies. But their sorrowful secretions were momentarily slowed when news broke that the space opera would be coming back--in telefilm form.
The Battlestar Galactica stand-alone movie is set to air sometime in 2009 after the series' final episode, Sci Fi said last month. The film will follow a pair of Cylon agents who are dealing with the small amount of humans who escaped the bombastic attack on Caprica.
Edward James Olmos, who plays rough and gruff Bill Adama, will direct the two-hour event, and Michael Trucco (Sam Anders), Aaron Douglas (Chief Galen Tyrol), and Dean Stockwell (Brother Cavil) are set to star. That sounds pretty cool...wait! Where are the lovely ladies of Battlestar?
Those who feared there would be no estrogen--albeit artificial--among the robotic ranks, fear not. Though Sci Fi Channel didn't say that Grace Park and Tricia Helfer (Boomer and Number Six, respectively) would be in the movie, The Chicago Tribune does.
Citing the ever-present "source close to the production" (that guy is everywhere!), the newspaper says Park and Helfer will be in the telefilm, likely playing multiple Cylons within their model, as will other "toasters" Rick Worthy, Matthew Bennett, and Callum Keith Rennie. However, Michael Hogan, who plays Saul Tigh, won't be in the film extensively. Bummer, he rocks.
Regardless of the rumors that have spread across the Web that the second half of Battlestar Galactica will return in April, Sci Fi Channel still expects to get things going in January.
